PUERTO MORELOS

Puerto Morelos is a Mexican port city with its own personality, located on the Caribbean coast of the Yucatan Peninsula. It is located in the Riviera Maya, between Cancun and Playa del Carmen, but it still has much of its old vibe as a place for turtle conservation.

Puerto Morelos has a Caribbean-style boardwalk with waterfront shops, restaurants, and bars. The city was used as a backdrop for the movie Interceptor, and that's about as close to any kind of Hollywood fame as it gets.

In the Puerto Morelos Reef National Park, there are several beach dive sites to explore. Turtles spawn on the beaches of its coasts. The freshwater cenotes Las Mojarras and Verde Lucero are located within the municipality.

Tourism options in Puerto Morelos are endless, with activities including snorkeling, kayaking, sunbathing, and scuba diving. Puerto Morelos is a peaceful fishing village that has been frozen in time. Its shallow beaches do not have high waves since they are protected by the second-largest barrier reef in the world, the Mesoamerican reef.

Adventure seekers will want no more, as there is plenty of ecotourism, snorkeling, diving, and fishing trips available here, located just 30 kilometers from Cancun.

Many visitors take a trip to explore the jungle and discover ancient Mayan ruins on ATVs or mountain bikes, zip lines through the jungle, and visit Ideal for windsurfing and paddle boarding, among other marine activities.

Restaurants are a great experience. On the beach, you can enjoy fresh seafood at one of the restaurants during the day. At night, you can lounge in cafes or lunch boxes located around the main square or fish for shooting stars in a clear sky, making a wish when the stars fall.
